We were beyond thrilled for the chance to collaborate with the Missouri Botanical Gardens — a world renowned research institution for plant and ecological research — to develop a brand, strategy, and content for the William L. Brown Center.

Based within the Gardens, the William L. Brown Center is a research institution dedicated to understanding the relationships between people, plants, and their environment. Their work advances the conservation of plant species and the preservation of traditional knowledge for the benefit of future generations.

For this project, we wanted to celebrate the connections between plants and people, from food to gardening to ceremony and cultural significance. We wanted the brand to feel elegant, timeless, and deeply connected to the Center’s values of equity, sustainability, and stewardship. In addition, we wanted the brand to mirror that of their parent, the Missouri Botanical Gardens, in terms of color, style, and tone.

It was, truly, an honor to work with this Center and advance their mission to connect people and plants across the globe!

The brand

The William L. Brown Center brand is warm and dynamic, with an interdisciplinary approach to plant science research. Driven to protect wild and domesticated plant species, as well as the people who depend on them, their brand is anchored in the principles of community, stewardship, and connection. 

To reflect their values, we designed a brand deeply rooted in people and nature. The primary logo highlights the deep cultural, social, and economic connections between people and plants. Custom icons reinforce specific aspects of the story.

The brand and website are designed to inspired awe and appreciation for all that plants bring to our lives and world!
