High-elevation ecosystems are changing faster than almost anywhere else on Earth. These “islands in the sky” are warming at nearly twice the global average, threatening water supplies, biodiversity, and the livelihoods of millions who depend on these fragile ecosystems. Without swift understanding and adaptive management, many high-altitude ecosystems and communities will be lost within our lifetime.
At the Mountain Ecology and Biogeography Lab at the University of Colorado Boulder, Dr. Sisimac Duchicela studies how high-elevation ecosystems are responding to climate change and how local communities can adapt. Working across the Andes, her team combines field experiments, biodiversity monitoring, and social–ecological frameworks to understand how climate change reshapes plant communities, ecosystem function, and human resilience in some of the planet’s most vulnerable places.
When Dr. Duchicela came to Impact Media Lab, her vision was to build a brand that reflects her energetic and collaborative spirit, while sharing the beauty of high-alpine landscapes. She wanted the brand to be a celebration of nature and her own indigenous Ecuadorian heritage.

The brand
warm,
energetic,
adventurous
The Mountain Ecology and Biogeography Lab brand is friendly, adventurous, and full of life. Inspired by mountain landscapes and Ecuadorian culture, the brand combines warm, bright colors with organic shapes and textures that evoke feelings of joy and energy. Geometric illustrations bring movement and storytelling to the site, while elegant typography ensures clarity and readability across audiences.
The visual identity captures balance — vibrant yet grounded, serious yet playful — to echo the way the lab approaches its science. It invites viewers to see mountain ecosystems not as distant or abstract, but as vibrant, living communities worth protecting..
We’re proud to help Dr. Duchicela and her team share their vision for resilient mountain ecosystems and communities!
